Suggest meetings / rallies during my trip June/July 2018?

May 31 I arrive in Hamburg and on 4 June take ferry to Helsinki and then CarTrain to Rovaniemi, to Nordkapp, and down west coast Norway, Stockholm, thru Denmark back to Hamburg and then down to Swiss Alps and Dolomiti, to family in Bergamo, IT and back to Hamburg, leaving 3 August.

Looking for any meetings / rallies in those areas then.

Asking here because too many posts to go thru on the pages for them.

sounds like a nice trip. But its hard to suggest some meetings / rallies as no one knows when you will be in which area.

When you are riding down the westcoast of norway, make sure you dont miss Lofoten islands. I've been there last year. One of the most amazing places of nature ! There is a ferry from Moskenes to Bodo which allows you, riding the islands one-way.

Still in Norway at the End of July and back to Hamburg at the 3rd of August for leaving Europe?
When do You want to drive to Stockholm, thru Denmark and Germany, the Swiss Alps, the Dolomites and visit the family in Bergamo??

Thank you, and especially (curious to see how the site translates that word!) for the Lofoten -> Bodo ferry. I have Lofoten A on my route but was having a hard time finding the ferry direct to Bodo.

Rain gear: IMMER! Aerostich has taken me thru much rain all over the world, including 8 hours on the Autobahn thru walls of water.

I know it seems a long way in a short time; I am going to use CarTrain from Hamburg to Lorrach both directions, and that will save much time.
A week in the Alps/Dolomiti is not much, but I've travelled there many times before.

Question: my German motorcycle partner thinks that July in the Alps/Dolomiti will be very busy and we will have a difficult time to find a room, but I remember that there are always lots of "Zimmer frei" everywhere. Thoughts?

use apps like "booking.com" or "Hotels.com", those can help you to find a room, even for only one night.
prepare for possible overcrowded regions in the Dolomiti, but july should not be the worst, august ist the horrible month...

Ok Zigy, using car trains is not a bad idea.
Starting in Hamburg there are also Car Trains to Verona.

A in Lofoten ist close to Moskenes. All the road signs show the little village A (with a ring on the top). But the ferry definetely starts from Moskenes.

There is a small and a large ferry. The small one only has like 15 or 20 places for motorbikes. I did not have a reservation last year (July) and luckily got the last place there. Better make a reservation as soon as you know when you are leaving Lofoten. There is a timetable in the internet (norweign language) with a booking adress included. I will see if I can find it and post it here.

Someone said that July in French alps very busy; we're intending to spend about a week riding in the
Bolzano area, and while my experience is did Usually August is more busy there (having spent a lot of time in the Engadine area). Thoughts on Alps further east? And if we were going to base ourselves in two different cities for a few days each and every day, what would you suggest? Merano, or?

my opinion and expierience:
Your germam motocycle partner is 50% right, in the first two weeks of July there is no high season all over the Alps.
Afterward it starts becoming busy, no big problem in Austria, Svizzerland and France, but in Italy, especially in the Dolomites.

Hi Zigy,

maybe you should consider to switch scheduled destinations. June is perfect for the Alps (only very few tourists and no accommodation issues), but risky in terms of weather conditions for northern Scandinavia. Best time for Scandinavia is july/August.

Going to the north cape is a kind of check-off event for many. The first 300 miles from Rovaniemi will be pretty monotonous. Make sure to spend enough time in the best parts of Norway - the region between Lofoten and Bergen. Consider to take the ferry from Oslo to Kiel on your way back. Sweden and Denmark are really beautiful countries, but the road along the west coast can be quite boring to drive.

The car train from Hamburg to Lörrach is privately operated, and pretty expensive. Austrian Rail is a much cheaper alternative. They offer a daily schedule from Hamburg -> Vienna and from Dusseldorf -> Innsbruck (Nightjet - Auto & Motorrad in Deutschland). The latter is a perfect starting point for the Dolomites.
